synopsis
First published under the pseudonym Robert Calder in 1977, and then as a best-selling Dell paperback in 1978, The Dogs, at first glance, appears to be nothing more than a typical 1970s animals-on-the-rampage novel. But The Dogs is much more than that. In scarcely 200 pages, there are secret government programs; a classic anti-hero protagonist with a shady past; sexual escapades; and one of literature’s finest portrayals of a canine hero, Orph, a government-bred super dog.
This edition features a new introduction by Lawrence Block, and a long preface by the author, as well as two original artworks for the book by Cristina Bencina. It also features reproductions of the original paperback and hardcover covers, all in color.
The book is hardcover with a sewn binding and a printed front panel. The dustjacket has a die cut oval which reveals part of the image. This is the fourth in our Vintage Horrors series.
